Version 2.1 is released!
Hi guys,
I’ve just built version 2.1 of the DJ Template: with a bunch of rather elegant fixes.
You can download it from http://github.com/willrjmarshall/AbletonDJTemplate/archives/master
In no particular order:
- The routing for the dummy clip FX has been changed. It is NO LONGER on Send A.
- Send A is currently unused.
- The crossfader no longer introduces distortion when in the middle position. It is now completely transparent!
- I’ve added the kick drum sample I use as a sidechain reference
- I’ve expanded the macro racks on each track so you can see where I hid the DJ Rack.
Please note: two files are missing from this template. They are intended to be missing. Please don’t email me asking about them
-Will

he’s asking lucifer, whick i installed, and effectrix that i installed too but this last one keep saying that’s not found..
versions Sugar.Bytes.Effectrix.v1.3.VST.AU.MAC.OSX
about 2 months ago
Seconded, what version of Effectrix are you using Will? Furthermore, what effects are using it?
Haha! I should have remembered to remove Lucifer and Effectrix.
I’ve no idea what version I have – but Lucifer and Effectrix are both mapped to my LPD8, not my APC, so none of the APC-based effects use them.

Hey Will, do the sends work different in this version? I’m getting no fx on send b and c. Not sure if i’m doing something wrong.

Hey Will,
I’m not getting the crossfader action to work. How exactly should the sends be set up in order to trigger them using the crossfader?
thanks,

The sends are no longer on the crossfader, as per the instructions.

There should be working FX on Send B and Send C

Ah I see. An updated video tutorial would be much appreciated by American DubStep Prods and Djs.

In the version I downloaded the send returns were not routed to the master fader. When I turned up send b or C, It had no effect. Once I changed that, everything was normal. I love this template Will, thanks so much for sharing.

^ Did what justin said and now reverb and echo work. So the first row and second row of knobs on the track controls of Send A/B/C do the same thing?

Hi Will,
Great work! Thanks a bunch! For me, this template works like a charm. However, there are two things that I do miss. Did you assign the tempo to particular knob? I cannot seem to find it.
The other thing is more personal, I really like the Dateq way of EQ’ing and have a preference for a subtle EQ. I think that your EQ is a bit harsh. Could you give me a pointer on how to change the harshness of the EQ?
Thanks in advance! _o_

Still like the previous version of this template…can’t really see a major change

Sorry guys!
I must have accidentally committed a slightly broken version.
I think I will commit to doing a new video tutorial this week! It’s long past time.

It’s basically been changed to suit how I work. Personally I find it much more intuitive
The transparent crossfader is a BIG win, though

The EQ3 module I am using is sitting inside the Standard DJ Rack. It would be very easy to replace it with another one, and remap the Macro controls so it all works the same way
The tempo is assigned to a knob on the User page of the Track Control knobs (using the NK template).

Hey will. This looks interesting.
I’m trying right now, but I don’t have the visual metronome working.
I’m using Live 8.1.4, Nativekontrol TC1-CL1
So I don’t have the TC2-CL2, nor the 1$upgrade.
Is it because of that ?
cheers mate, that’s a really good job you did here !

I’m having trouble getting the visual metronome to work as well. I have tc2-cl2 with the $1 upgrade and ableton 8.1.3 on windows.

I figured it out, in addition to the MT player instructions for the ableton midi settings, turn the “track” button on for “Output: APC40 Output (To MT Player 1)”.

Hey Will, great template however I am having issues with the NativeKontrol side. I’ve installed the CL2 and TC2 and the update yet i am not getting those controls like the on of scene launch and that metronome led thing doesn’t seem to be working for me either. Am I missing something?

Hey Will, got a question. I am/was getting some feedback/stutter/delay type thing from the Reference and Dly channels. First I couldn’t get any audio to come out of the Master channel. I then found out this was because Lucifer was on. So I turned Lucifer off but like I said I got this crazy feedback/stutter thing that would rise up in the Reference and Dly channel. This would happen when Live was stopped and would also happen when I had audio playing. After some messing around I set the Reference channel’s “Audio From” section from “Ext. In” to “Master Cue” and that sorted it out (as far as I can tell haha). I still have to turn Lucifer off for audio to come out of the Master channel though. So I guess my question is what’s going on there? I have an older version of your template and I didn’t have that feedback problem.
But yeah just though I’d mention that, any insight would be much appreciated. And even with that minor setback I’m enjoying the template and can’t wait till I have that NativeKontrol TC2-CL2 to be able to do even more with it.

Hey Ian,
I just checked out that feedback issue, and you’re quite right. The input was set incorrectly and was picking up noise from the mic. I didn’t notice because I don’t have a mic! I’ll update the template with this changed
With Lucifer, which version are you using? It sounds like it’s either A: broken, or B: somehow configured to prevent audio passing through.

Hey,
Can you send me a screenshot of your MIDI settings? It sounds like they’re probably wrong!

There’s a comment in this thread just below yours that explains what’s wrong!

I’m afraid I don’t have it – you would have to email Stray from NativeKontrol.

Ah so that’s what it was! I couldn’t for the life of me figure out where that was coming from. Also I found that for the Reference channel setting “Audio From” to “No Input” was a better option as the volume didn’t dip when I had the crossfader in the center.
As for Lucifer I have version 2.1and I haven’t really played around with it yet so it’s possible it’s not set up properly. I’ll check it out and if need be reinstall it.
Thanks for the help!
